DOMAINE GRAUZAN - Cabernet Sauvignon - Languedoc, Southern
France
The Languedoc-Rousillon region of Southern France has long been regarded
as the least sophisticated area of French wine production. However a
recent influx of New World winemakers have provided the "kick up
the backside" required to do justice to an area of excellent climate & "terroir".
It seems to be going from strength to strength and the prices are still
pretty good too!

KINTU CABERNET SAUVIGNON - Maule valley, CHILE 2005
Chile is becoming a country of great consistency. Quality, affordable
wines almost without exception. We have already had the Sauvignon Blanc
from these guys, and this is another winner! Cabernet Sauvignon's classic
Blackcurrant flavours along with a touch of herbs & spices - Great
Value.

ALDRIDGE ESTATE Shiraz Merlot - South East Australia 2004
The combination of Shiraz and Merlot is very rare and one that I particularly
like, so much so that whenever it arises I must have a look! The soft
fruitiness of the Merlot balances well with the Shiraz's peppery and
rich, full-bodied flavour - Great with red meats. |

LUGANA - "San Benedetto" Zenato
Lugana is the area between Peschiera and Desenzano, on the southern shore
of Lake Garda. Typically with Italian wine, the grapes are generic,
and in this case predominantly Trebbiano. Light, crisp and fruity,
but this has real quality. After the World Cup I gave up on Italian
wine but this is a treat. |

VISTAMAR Sauvignon Blanc, Maule Valley Chile
We've had this one before, but new packaging and new promotions so I
thought any excuse! This Chilean Sauvignon has a bit more of the typical
French style - a bit more tangy and "green" than some of
the lighter Chilean types. |

KLIPPENKOP Chenin Blanc - South Africa - 2006
Despite being a very young wine - this has softened very quickly and
is very drinkable. Unfortunately the missus & I discovered this
last weekend as it scored very well on the "how
much can you drink" scale and after three bottles we thought it best to
go to bed before we got into more trouble. |
