BROOKFIELD PETIT VERDOT - AUSTRALIA
The Brookfield name comes from a conservation park in South East Oz.
One of their particular conservation concerns is the "Hairy-nosed
Wombat"! Petit Verdot traditionally is used to add depth to the
reds of the Haut-Medoc, however there are many new world plantings
reaping great rewards. It's a rich and tannic flavour which can need
a few years in the bottle - 7 out of 10.

PERDEBERG PINOTAGESouth Africa - 2005
Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut conceived in South
Africa in 1925 but not widely planted until the 1950's. It's a bit
of a love-hate grape, the main characteristics are plums, red berries
and dark rich fruit.

VISTAMAR MERLOT - Chile 2005
I've always liked Merlot - "Red wine without the Tears" as
someone once said! - It can claim to be one of the Masters of the red
wine world, yet at the same time, can make a wine of fat, juicy character
without tannic bitterness ready to drink almost straight from the vineyard.
Blackberries with a touch of spice! |

SANTA LUISA CHARDONNAY - Mendoza, Argentina 2005
You can tell by the colour of this that it bears no relation to the Yellow,
heavily oaked Chardonnay's of Australia. Despite the light colour,
it is still a substantal wine, with apple and citrus aromas and a buttery,
rich aftertaste. Light seafood dishes and chicken do the job! |

DOMAINE GRAUZAN SAUVIGNON BLANC - France 2005
This wine is a twin to the Cabernet Sauvignon from last month, which
seems to have gone down very well. Old world climate and
environment with some new world "pazazz". Good prices too. |

VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DI JESI - "TERRE CORTESE" 2005
I had to buy this just for the bottle! That aside - this is quite special.
Grown in hills near the Adriatic coast, it's become central Italy's
most promising white of the last ten years. When young it is fresh & fruity,
ideal with fish, but has enough strength to age into wine of some great
depth. |
