TERRA MATER MERLOT - CHILE 85% Merlot & 15% Cabernet Sauvignon - 14% alcohol, dark colour ripe fruit on the nose; plums, strawberries & blackcurrants to taste. The regulations state that to brand a wine a single varietal it must contain at least 85% of that grape. They are rarely 100% varietal. In this case the Cabernet Sauvignon adds body & helps aging. |

ARDECHE - Vin de Pays Cabernet Sauvignon The Ardeche is the most westerly area of the Rhone valley & aims for the value end of the market. Although the Rhone is not known for its Cabernet Sauvignon this is nice and easy. Not as over-powering as some New World Cabernets. |

A well-balanced wine exhibiting a medium bodied palate structure with good mouth feel and refreshing acidity. KUENTZ BAS PINOT BLANC - ALSACE, FRANCE Not the oldest Alsatian Winemakers, these guys have only been going since 1795 - so they know a bit ! Pinot Blanc is only planted over a fraction of the 15,000 hectares (c. 37,000 acres) of the Alsace vineyards, but I like this for its clean-ness and freshness. A quirk of the Alsace is that they must use the traditional, slender bottles. |
