CALDERONA ROBLE 2004 - Cigales, SPAIN The area of Cigales has only been recognised as a DO since 1991, with 2004 the best vintage yet. It's the same Tempranillo grape as Rioja, but produced a bit down the road - so quite a bargain! You can taste the similarities with Rioja. |

THE RIVER GARDEN SAUVIGNON BLANC, Lourensford, SOUTH AFRICA 2007 This is my latest find. A really delicious Sauvignon Blanc to rival many from New Zealand, but being from S Africa, is tremendously good value by comparison. All the clean and crisp characteristics of a classic Sauvignon with lovely gentle zest to finish. |

NIEL JOUBERT CHENIN BLANC, Paarl, South Africa 2007 Every so often I suppose we ought to hear what the professionals say ...Fruit driven nose with grapefruit, melon, lemon and lees. Well rounded in the mouth with finesse, subtlety and fine balance. Deftly handled oak and delicious now, yet potential to develop in a couple of years. |

MILLAMAN CONDOR CHARDONNAY, Chile 2006 The Condor is the largest flying land bird in the Western Hemisphere. The wingspan can be up to 2.9m - that's almost as big as my truck! This one is flying above the Grand Canyon! The wine, incidentally is a classic Chilean Chardonnay and great value. Just drink up & imagine soaring above the clouds. |
