WAKEFIELD ESTATE SHIRAZ - Clare Valley, South Australia - 2006 This is getting to the area where I feel you need to have something really good to justify the price. As Aussie Shiraz goes is has all the right stuff; rich and strong with peppery fruit flavoured chocolate. Quite young though, so it needs plenty of air. |

ERRAZURIZ ESTATE MERLOT - Curicó Valley, Chile - 2006 Aah, those were the days, back in the early '90's, when I reckon this was about the only red we drank! Still showing great quality, this is a great Chilean Merlot. Full-bodied and with excellent structure, but like the Wakefield Shiraz is young and needs air or time in the cellar! |

POCO MAS RESERVA CHARDONNAY - Casablanca Valley, Chile - 2006 In answer to the call ABC - Anything But Chardonnay, I protest. It doesn't have to be that way. Chile has a great climate for producing fruity and oaky chardonnay yet much cleaner than some Aussie fayre. Fab with seafood this one! |

CARLO DAMIANI PINOT GRIGIO Rosé - Veneto, N.E. Italy - 2006 "How terribly fashionable !" Not only do we start this year with a Pinot Grigio, but it is also a Rosé. Lovely easy drinking - dry but fruity and with a bit more body than the white version. Why shouldn't we drink rosé in the winter too? |
