CÔTES du VENTOUX “Les Traverses” 2004
The Ventoux is a Grand Vin de Rhone, meaning that it is one or two steps
up from your average Côtes du Rhône, and it's rather splendid.
20% Syrah & 80% Grenache, it certainly packs a punch at 13.5% although
is not as heavy as some wines at that strength. We had it with our
Christmas Turkey and my Dad thought it was scrummy!

ALDRIDGE ESTATE Shiraz Merlot, South East Australia, 2004
Having tried an Australian Shiraz/Merlot blend four or five years ago,
and been struck so much as to remember (which for me is no mean feat),
it has taken me until now to find another one. Priced very reasonably,
I think this is about as easy drinking as it gets. Plenty of fruit,
but enough Shiraz pepper, it goes down well with any meat dish - enjoy.

SANTA LUISA MALBEC - Argentina 2005
Argentina's Signature grape, Malbec, has great fruit characteristics
and this wine is "bursting" with ripe red fruit flavours.
Malbec is always dark & rich with ripe damsony flavours. Another
Winner at a fab price! |

OLD COACH ROAD SAUVIGNON BLANC, Nelson, New Zealand -
2005
Nelson is a small but fast-growing region just to the west of the Marlborough
district in the North of NZ's South Island. It gets a little more Autumn
rain than its famous neighbour and this can hinder ripening. That will
reduce the sweetness that sometimes is evident in the Marlborough Sauvignon
Blanc's - More to my liking. |

CORTESE IGT PROVINCI DI PAVIA "SENTITO" - Lombardy,
Northern Italy
The Cortese grape is mainly used for the production of the high quality
Gavi wines but is widely grown in the Oltrepo region. Generally this
modern style of Cortese has a good level of acidity, full ripe fruits,
lemony zesty characteristics and modern packaging. This has 15% Riesling
to soften things up a bit. |

CRYSTAL BROOK UNOAKED CHARDONNAY - 2006 - South Australia
I'm a fan of Australian Chardonnay, but only when they leave out the
Oak. Look out for the Pineapple and melon flavours. As with many Antipodean
wines, the screw-top (or Stelvin top) means that it can go back in
the fridge for the next time, although that doesn't happen very often
in our house! |
