The history of Aston Jones Limited
W.H.JONES was established in 1908 as a Guinness bottling plant
and distributor, and continued on these lines until bottling beer
was centralised in the 1970’s, when the Jones family began
wholesaling beer and soft drinks on a more specialised basis.
Beer wholesaling and more specifically, Guinness wholesaling kept
the Jones family busy and happy for several generations until eventually
selling up to their local Guinness representative in 1981 – a
charming and handsome young chap by the name of Peter Aston. (who
wrote this?)
After a short while it was decided to “alter” the
company name, as initial ‘W’ in the Jones section of
the directory didn’t hold any advantages, and Aston Jones
was born.
In 1994, when Mr Aston’s younger daughter married, the son-in-law
crept quietly through the business’s back door, un-noticed,
and within a few years was offered a partnership. (Lord knows why!)
In September 2003, the decision was taken to move from the historic
and romantic setting of Ryeland Street in Shotton to Llay Industrial
Estate on the outskirts of Wrexham. A more spacious and practical
environment has now helped us to move onwards and upwards, and
provide excellent products and services to a wider and most appreciative
audience.
Despite frequent “contributions” from Mr (& Mrs)
Aston, Angus Smellie (the son-in-law) now holds some form of control
over three other colleagues, and the result is a local, friendly
business, which endeavours to emphasize service as well as value.
